OVERVIEW: Two States' suits, on behalf of their citizens, who had assigned their claims against Louisiana to the States, had to be dismissed for want of jurisdiction. Though the court had jurisdiction over suits between two states, the States could not bring their actions within that jurisdiction by assuming to prosecute the suits on the citizens' behalf.
