OVERVIEW: Because the function of a writ of habeas corpus was to test a prisoner's current detention, it was immaterial that another prison term might still await a petitioner even if he successfully established the unconstitutionality of his present imprisonment. Thus, a petition should not have been denied because petitioner had another prison sentence.
