Market Data Web Sites

  • 3D Stock Charts (Market Data)
Get Archipelago and Island ECN quotes in an easier to understand graphic format. Instead of the Island quotes flashing before your eyes, you see where the supply and demand for a Nasdaq stock is. Everything is free, but the explanations of how to use it need improvement.

  • ASK Research (Market Data)
Good site for the market basics in a fast, easy format: delayed quotes (real-times have a fee); intraday charts;and option chains. "Day trader" charts showing the big indexes at five minute intervals may bethis site's best feature. The portfolio tracker is nothing spectacular, but the improved quote function lets you select from and set eight tech analysis indicators for your chart display, which refreshes automatically. There's little original content here. The news link is to CBS MarketWatch.

  • Briefing.com (Market Data)
Frequently updated market commentaries make this one of the Web's most popular financial haunts. Free services include intraday analysis, quotes, charts, sector ratings, and bond briefings. The Stock Analysis package ($6.95/mo.) brings you constant, day-long information on upgrades and downgrades, splits, earnings, news summaries, a special focus on tech stocks, and a deep, searchable archive. The Professional package has commentary on bonds, indicators, and currencies for $25/ month.

  • Bullsession.com (Market Data)
This is a dynamically updating real-time quote provider, allowing the creation of an unlimited number of portfolios. See instantaneous profit calculations. Its sharp-looking interface is Java-based, so there is nothing to download. Subscriptions start at $25.95 a month, including exchange fees.

  • Datalink (Market Data)
Datalink offers an array of data-delivery services that notify investors of real-time information via a pager. Receive stock and commodities alerts, breaking market and company news, and even alerts from a rumor site. Services range from $8.95 to $75 a month.

  • Freerealtime.com (Market Data)
This site offers free quotes and plenty more to peruse. It displays your stock list with delayed prices. Click on a symbol to get the real-time number, or key in one name for the quote. There's lots of news, an offering of what's hot and what's not; and a pick of the day from Larry Aloof with a chart and explanation. Freerealtime runs fast and easy.

  • JavaTicker (Market Data)
JavaTicker lets you create a ticker in seconds that shows only semiconductor stocks, regional banks, or whatever you choose. Customize it so you can see both stocks and news, or use JavaTicker's screening features to rank stocks within sectors by things such as best earnings surprises or highest insider buying. Great work, but it's not in real time?

  • LiveCharts (Market Data)
Quote.com (recently acquired by Lycos) makes this package of real-time quote and charting data available for $9.95. Costlier bundles add fundamental data and news for an extra $10, and options quotes for an extra $30.
