Parenting Web Resources

When Grandma doesn’t have the answer, who do you turn to for suggestions on everything from how to get a child to sleep through the night to cleaning up that mess the kids made while you thought they were sleeping? The Web, that’s who. At least that’s what the Web-savvy professional moms and dads I quizzed had to say.

A potpourri of some of the favorites:

Clubmom.com
A site co-founded by Meredith Vieria of The Today Show, it is a commercial site full of product offers and coupons, but it also provides a forum for regular moms to talk about what has worked for them.

All Kinds of Minds
A nonprofit site founded by a pediatrician with the goal of giving adults the tools they need to help children learn. The site features articles and information from educators as well as doctors.

WebMD
A site to research what your doctor told you, try to narrow down symptoms, find information on drugs, and find a lot of other medical basics and info. [Editor’s Note: I find it very useful in helping me plan out what I want to say to the doctor on visits.]
http://www.webmd.com/

iVillage/Parenting
Lots and lots of quizzes and articles and pictures, oh my.

Oxygen/Oh Baby!
The tag line is "…for those who have gone parental." A fun site that has lots of video flips, a baby naming widget and a pregnancy calendar.
http://www.oxygen.com/ohbaby

PBS — The Whole Child
A great site for information and insight into child development and learning with a special section for child care providers.

How To Clean Anything
If you are wondering why a cleaning site is in with parenting resources, you’ve obviously never met any children.
