Overview: In a very brief order in an Anders appeal, the court upheld defendant's sentence for firearms offenses; the court declined to consider on direct appeal a claim that defendant received ineffective assistance of counsel, and because the district court treated the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines Manual as advisory, there was no Blakely error.

Overview: Summary judgment in favor of a check guarantee company, an FDCPA debt collector, was upheld. Among other matters, plaintiff did not show that 15 U.S.C.S. § 1692e contemplated liability for the kind of representation the check guarantee company made to a returned check processor. Technical violation at issue of § 1692g(a)(5) did not violate FDCPA.
