Attorney Says Marine's Sentence For Killing Iraqi Reduced

Associated Press
May 8, 2008

LOS ANGELES

The civilian lawyer for a Marine sentenced to 15 years in the brig for killing an Iraqi says his client's term has been reduced by four years.

Attorney Rich Brannon said Wednesday that he learned of the decision from the Marine lawyers for Lawrence G. Hutchins III.

The Camp Pendleton Marine led a squad accused of killing 52-year-old Hashim Ibrahim Awad in 2006 after kidnapping him from his home.

Brannon says he had appealed to the Marine's commanding general for clemency. Hutchins was convicted of murder and other crimes.
